  • Crisis Hotline for Victims of Hurricane Katrina (Department of Health and Human Services)By dialing 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255), callers will be connected to a network of local crisis centers across the country that are committed to crisis counseling. Callers to the hotline will receive counseling from trained staff at the closest certified crisis center in the network.

  • America’s Second Harvest—The Nation’s Food Bank Network (website)

  • U.S. Postal Service: 1-800-ASK-USPS (800-275-8777) and www.usps.com and Click on Hurricane Katrina Update for important information on mail delivery to specific zip codes in effected areas and picking up first of the month SSA checks, etc.

  • U.S. State Dept. National Passport Center - 1-877-487-2778
    (Passport center that serves 18 states is flooded in New Orleans.)
